Daily diary – April 15 2025

This morning the sun was shining and the sky was blue, the sea was fairly calm with a bit of swell. We headed out into the bay and could see lots of birds in the area feeding! After approaching the area we could see lots of different blows! There were so many in every direction! We had at least 5 or 6 humpback whales in the area and we could see 2 minke whales in the distance as well! We got to see 2 of the humpback whales up close! Just as we headed back into the harbour, the wind started to pick up.

The afternoon was a lot windier than the morning, and the clouds had come over us. On our way to the area where we saw humpback whales this morning, we came across 3 harbour porpoises! They only surfaced once or twice to say hello before disappearing! Once we got to the area, we had a brief encounter with a minke whale before we started seeing lots of blows. There were still 4-5 humpback whales around. We spent time with one of them and all of a sudden it did a peduncle throw!!! We then saw two humpback whales travelling side by side! Not something we see all the time! The way back was a lot choppier and so unfortunately a few people were seasick!
