Daily diary – April 20 2025

What a wonderful Easter weekend its been! The whole day was beautifully sunny and calm seas!

This morning was so exciting! First we saw a pod of 6 harbour porpoises! They were glistening in the sun as they swam, but we didn’t stay with them long as they disappeared. We continued out and came across our first minke whale! This one was really big and swam right next to the boat! We could see the white bands on its pectoral fins! Then we headed out a little bit further and came across some white-beaked dolphins! There were several pods out in the bay and one pod starting breaching!! We then saw 2 more minke whales, but these were much smaller than the one before.

The afternoon was just as good! We headed out and came across a humpback whale! It was really near Akurey! It started rolling on its back and pec-slapping! Down on the RIB we could even smell its stinky rotten fish breath!! We then continued out and found several pods of white-beaked dolphins again. They were sending us in circles as they kept swimming around us. On our way home, we decided to head back over to the humpback whale and watch it for a bit. It even gave us a beautiful rain-blow!
