Daily diary – April 25 2025

We set off this morning in a little light rain, but it didn’t do us any harm, as it dissipated very quickly. If we could put one word to this day, it would be patience. It was after a good half hour’s sailing that we saw our first blow. It was that of a Minke whale. At this point we saw a second one come to the surface, coming close to the boat several times. Then one of them left us, the one that stayed changed direction very often and made long deep dives which made it difficult for us to follow.
In the afternoon we didn’t see the Minke whales from the morning, but we did see a group of about ten white-beaked dolphins. On the way back we got a call from another boat saying they had seen a Humpback whale, so we headed there. When we arrived the Humpback whale appeared close to the boat and we could see its long white pectoral fins and tail several times. It was a nice end to the expedition.
