Daily diary – April 8 2025

What a day it has been! Despite the clouds it was the perfect conditions to go out in! There was no wind and no waves! In the morning we headed into the middle of the bay and came across a megapod of white-beaked dolphins! They were all split up but swimming very near to each other! They were jumping and breaching! Making really big splashes! We stayed with them for a while, in awe of the dolphins surrounding us! We then left them alone and continued on our journey and came across 2 minke whales! They surfaced really close to the boat! On our way home we came across the dolphins again and they swam with the boat for a bit on the way back.

The afternoon was just as good!!! 30 minutes into our journey we came across the dolphins from this morning! They were right near the lighthouse! They were still jumping, breaching, and even tail slapping! It looked like they were having a feast! We even saw two calves joining in on the fun! There were still at least 100-200 dolphins! As we were slowly heading into the bay, they still swam next to us! As we got a little bit further out we finally lost them but again came across 2 minke whales and a humpback whale!!!! This humpback whale we last saw on the 27th of October! It has finally come back to the bay! We watched the two different species of whale feed near each other! And then guess what??? The dolphins came back over to us and started joining in on the frenzy! We were surrounded by white-beaked dolphins, minke whales and a humpback whale!!!
