Daily diary – August 18 2025

Perfect weather conditions today: very calm seas, gentle wind and good visibility – especially in the afternoon.

We started our morning with a pod of white beaked dolphins and minke whales popping up here and there. We had to wait for humpbacks, but we found them! Two grown-ups that we were observing later on during the day. These two were very relaxed, almost as they were asleep till 4pm.

In the afternoon, we found them again with an extra, much smaller, individual and this time they were much more active – all three of them cooperated in creating bubble nets and lunge feeding. That was a show! The whole area was full of fish, so we ended the day surrounded by three humpbacks, many minke whales and diving northern gannets.

Fantastic and successful day it was… except one issue – our puffins seem to slowly disappear from Iceland, it´s time for them to take off to the open Atlantic, so we take advantage of the last weeks with them!
