Daily Diary – August 25 2024

Today, and for the past few days, the whales have been close to the harbor, so we just need to sail for about twenty minutes to find them. This morning’s tour was accompanied by 2 Humpback Whales, which are quite calm and make long deep dives. The duration of these dives can vary from 3 to 25 minutes for the Humpback Whales. It all depends on how deep you are, but also on the temperature of the water, which at the moment is around 10 degrees, allowing the whales to stay a little longer underwater. Whale watching is a matter of patience!
And to top it all off, one of the two whales we saw jumped in front of the boat.

Regarding the afternoon tour we were able to observe at the Humpback Whale which was already present during the previous round, this one was more active than in the morning. In fact she swam with a rather high speed that it was sometimes difficult to follow her. But at the end of the tour she approached the boat as if to wish us a safe return to port. In addition, she offered us a show worthy of gymnastics tests during the Olympic Games, she turned around several times which allowed us to observe her belly very rarely visible because it was underwater most of the time. During these acrobatic returns we were also able to observe the white and long pinball machines. The side fins of Humpback Whales can reach a length of 5 meters.
