Daily diary – August 5 2025

Truly Icelandic weather today – strong wind, a lot of rain and significant waves. Sounds discouraging but we spotted a lot of whales today, some of them were as close as 20 minutes from the harbour!

The whole day was a show of humpbacks – during the first tour we firstly saw three individuals swimming alongside, later we spotted another, a bit smaller humpback. Lots of minke whales here and there too!

The afternoon tour started pretty unusual, as we spotted three active minke whales, in the shallow area very close to the harbour. They were so busy hunting, they didn´t mind surfacing even couple of meters from our boat! A bit further two humpbacks were spotted and these ones gave us a beautiful show – two breaches and lots of beautiful tails.
