Daily diary – July 20 2025

A gentle wind from the south allows the volcanic pollution to remain in our bay. Visibility is therefore limited, but we benefit from the fact that the sea is completely calm, with almost no waves, which is good for tracking whales.

Most of them are still further offshore, so it takes time to find them, but what we found today exceeded our expectations. We entered the open buffet zone – small fish and krill were visible on the surface of the water. All around we encountered as many as 20 minke whales, two active pods of white-beaked dolphins, 3 adult humpback males and one juvenile from the same species – all in one place!
