Daily diary – October 12 2024

This morning, the weather was much better than yesterday! As we sailed out into the bay we came across a minke whale and got to see it swim around the boat. We headed out to our first humpback whale of the tour and got a few dives from it, however, it would travel far between each dive so we carried on to find white-beaked dolphins. They were feeding around us and swimming really fast. On our way back to the harbour, we came across a pair of humpback whales that were really curious and kept swimming back and forth under our boat. One of them even rolled! It was so cool to see!

The sea was so flat this afternoon, and the sky was so blue! It was the perfect combination. Shortly after leaving the harbour, we came across our first minke whale near Engey! We carried on and soon enough were surrounded by 6-8 minke whales. We then headed over to where we could see blows coming from a humpback whale! As we approached, the whale slapped its tail. It was also accompanied by a few minke whales. Shortly after arriving, the humpback whale started bubble net feeding and lunging up at all of the fish. We could see all of the fish move at the surface of the water as they tried to escape the humpback! We headed back home but was shortly disrupted by the sight of another three humpback whales! We watched them for a few minutes before heading back home.
