Daily diary – October 27 2024

After a few days of cancelled tours due to rough seas, it was about time for us to head back out and venture into the sunny bay. After an hour of sailing through the rocky waves, we found lots and lots of birds feeding. We were sure there would be some marine mammals also feeding in the area… and we were right!!! We soon started seeing lots of blows in all directions. 4-5 humpback whales were in the area! We got to see two really up close!

We had clear, blue skies again for our afternoon tour! We sailed out into the bay and found a few blows in front of us. A few of the blows disappeared but we were left with this one humpback whale who was headed back toward the harbour! They were travelling far between each dive and really fast! At one point it was right by the bow but it continued on its journey. We saw a blow from a minke whale as well whilst waiting for the humpback whale to return. On our way back to harbour, we saw a few harbour porpoises swimming near the front of the boat before disappearing again.
