Daily diary – October 3 2024

As on our 2 previous days, the sea conditions were a bit rough, but they improved during the day. In fact, the morning tour was accompanied by slightly more waves than in the afternoon.
It’s also exciting to see the diversity of conditions in the bay of Faxaflói!

Our exit from the port this morning was escorted by a Minke whale that was feeding. We saw it again on our return 3 hours later. It was a pleasant surprise to see several Humpback whales this morning for quite a long time. The surprise was all the greater when one of them began to slap its tail on the surface of the water. Something that doesn’t happen very often!

After all that effort in the morning, it was the tired and more relaxed humpbacks that we found in the afternoon. They had been doing long deep dives, which left us in suspense and wanting to see them reappear on the surface. The Minke whale present in the port this morning was no longer there this afternoon but we were still lucky enough to observe two during our expedition.
