Daily diary – October 6 2024
The weather for today was perfectly, clear, sunny skies, so we set out to find our marine mammals. On this mornings tour we saw harbour porpoises near the islands, but they disappeared rather quickly so we continued on. We then saw the first of many minke whales right before we came across our humpback whale. The humpback whale got really close to the boat and swam right underneath the boat. Whilst enjoying his company, we got to see lots of minke whales around the boat. We then headed back to the harbour after a beautiful morning with our three species.
The beautiful weather continued into the afternoon, so we sailed out to the area where we saw our humpback whale this morning, and soon enough found him again. He kept swimming close to all of the boats and in between dives, we got to see more minke whales. We had a few minke whales come right up to the boat so that we could see there white banded on their pectoral fins. Just as we thought we hadn´t seen enough species, a pod of harbour porpoises joined in on the fun. There were blows all around the boat from minke whales and we then headed off to see if we could find dolphins. However, not long after leaving, the humpback whale breached. We got to enjoy it from afar but soon the fun stopped and he returned to his normal swimming. We headed back very happy and glad to see all of these beautiful species.
