Northern lights diary – January 19th 2026

Sunrise: 10:46 UTC

Sunset: 16:32 UTC

Kp : 8/9

Moon status: 0% illuminated

Forecast: Fully clear skies and a KP index of 5 to even 8 is forecasted in the area of Reykjavik, tonight´s tour is on!

Comment: We truly had a blast tonight! Due to the high KP index, the aurora was visible above and south of Reykjavik. But what a show it was, literally the entire sky above us was covered with a huge green and red glow of light. Here and there, we also saw dancing ribbons… we must admit that the intensity of the aurora that night was phenomenal!
