Northern lights diary – March 10th 2026

Sunrise: 08:03 UTC

Sunset: 19:13 UTC

Kp: 3/9

Moon status: 79% illuminated

Forecast from Vedur.is : Tonight we’re expecting partially clear skies and medium KP index. The tour is on!

Comment: When we left the harbour that night, the sky was cloudy again. However, as soon as we got out to sea, the clouds began to lift and there were a few patches of clear sky, so that we could see a few stars. We then began to see some faint lines of aurora after about 15 minutes of stopping the boat in a place sheltered from light pollution. Throughout the evening, clouds appeared and disappeared, and the aurora became so faint that it was only possible to see it a little through the phone.

But the best was yet to come, and this time it came right at the end of the tour when, just before docking, the sky opened up and the aurora was so strong for a few moments that it left everyone speechless.
