Northern lights diary – March 14th 2026

Sunrise: 07:51 UTC

Sunset: 19:28 UTC

Kp: 4/9

Moon status: 83% illuminated

Forecast from Vedur.is : Tonight we’re expecting partially cloudy skies and high KP index. The tour is on!

Comment: The fact that there was so much solar activity this evening gave us hope of seeing the Northern Lights, even though we knew the sky was partly cloudy. As we all know, here in Iceland the weather changes every five minutes, so the sky could always clear up, and for the Northern Lights, all it takes is a patch of cloud-free sky to perhaps catch a glimpse of them. However, luck wasn’t on our side this time and the sky remained cloudy all evening.
