Northern lights diary – October 21 2025

Sunrise: 08:37 UTC

Sunset: 17:49 UTC

Kp : 2/9

Moon status: new moon, 0% illuminated

Forecast: We’re expecting a clear night above Reykjavik with some very good northern light activity.

Comment: The aurora appeared just as we left the harbor, stretching in a full arc above Mount Esja. At first, it was faint – barely visible to the naked eye – but gradually it grew stronger. Shades of green deepened into double arcs, with rays beginning to dance and shift across the sky.
Later, the lights slowly faded, but the skies stayed clear, and we could admire a beautiful spread of constellations overhead.
