Morning Tour

Today greeted us with beautiful weather and excellent visibility across Faxaflói Bay. Although the wind was noticeably stronger than in recent days and the sea was rather rough, our passengers embraced the adventure as we headed out in search of whales.

Our first encounter came in the form of a humpback whale mother and her calf. The young whale quickly stole the show, displaying curiosity as it surfaced alongside its mother. The calf seemed fascinated by the boats, repeatedly appearing near the surface and giving everyone on board plenty of opportunities to admire its playful nature.

Afternoon Tour

The wind remained strong in the afternoon, but the sea calmed down a bit.

Our first major encounter was with a group of three adult humpback whales travelling and feeding together. The trio was actively hunting, surfacing frequently as they worked through a productive feeding area.

Further offshore, we discovered even more activity. Two additional humpback whales were feeding in an area absolutely alive with seabirds. Hundreds of birds circled overhead and gathered on the surface, creating a clear sign that prey was concentrated below. As if that were not enough, we were treated to a surprise visit from a minke whale. The whale surfaced right beside our boat, giving everyone a fantastic close-up view. However, it seemed to be focused on its own mission. With food clearly on its mind, the minke quickly continued on its way, leaving us with a brief but unforgettable encounter.
