Whale Watching Daily Diary – 9th June 2026
Morning Tour
We set out from a rainy Reykjavík harbour, but as we headed further out into Faxaflói Bay, the clouds parted to reveal beautiful weather with calm seas and excellent visibility. It didn’t take long for the bay to show us its magic! Our first highlight was a lively pod of white-beaked dolphins that swam right alongside the boat, showing off their playful nature. Shortly after, we were treated to the magnificent sight of a humpback whale. It surfaced calmly and gave us a spectacular view of its fluke as it dove into the deep blue.
Afternoon Tour
While the rain continued back on land, conditions out in the bay remained fantastic for our afternoon adventure. The wildlife was incredibly active! We started by encountering a few scattered minke whales feeding peacefully alongside crowds of diving seabirds. The real showstopper, however, was another humpback whale that completely stole the spotlight. It put on an unforgettable performance, breaching out of the water and slapping its pectoral fins against the surface, creating massive splashes. Combined with more playful dolphin sightings, it was a breathtaking day at sea that proved you should never let a little harbour rain fool you!
