Whale Watching Daily Diary – April 8th 2026

Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; Humpback whale flukes showing their unique black and white pattern seen whilst whale watching in Faxafloi Reykjavik, Iceland

The conditions on Faxafloi were wonderful! We set off with a light breeze, calm seas, excellent visibility and even the sun shining right in our faces!

We set course for the open bay, reaching an area after about an hour where we saw countless birds – always a good sign! Two large blows came into view in the distance. On our way there, minke whale surfaced out of nowhere. It didn’t stay with us long, so we continued towards the tall blows of the humpback whales. Two adult whales were swimming separately, about 800 meters apart. We were treated to the sight of their beautiful tails and even their white pectoral fins glinting through the water. On the way back to port, white-beaked dolphins crossed our path for a few moments!

In the afternoon, the weather remained just as good, with a light drizzle here and there. Just like in the morning, we encountered two humpbacks!

The whales seem a little farther from the shore, but it’s definitely worth the wait. A successful day!
