Whale Watching Daily Diary – April 9th 2026

Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; Humpback whale flukes showing their unique black and white pattern seen whilst whale watching in Faxafloi Reykjavik, Iceland

The conditions on Faxaflói were quite challenging! We set off in strong winds and heavy rain, with rougher seas and limited visibility, making it a true Icelandic adventure right from the start.

We headed out into the open bay, and after about 15 minutes, we began to notice bird activity despite the weather – always a promising sign. Not long after, we were lucky enough to spot a minke whale. It surfaced briefly near us, giving us a quick but memorable encounter before disappearing back into the depths.

The wind and rain stayed with us throughout the trip, but that didn’t take away from the experience. On the way back to port, we kept scanning the waves, appreciating the ocean’s raw beauty in these wild conditions.

Even though the weather was far from calm, it made the sighting feel even more special. A short but rewarding encounter out on Faxaflói!
