Whale Watching Daily Diary – December 16th 2025

whale watching - humpback whale jumps fully out of the water, a beautiful breach

It was another cold and bright day here with very little wind, so perfect for getting out on the water!

Everything was snowy and frosty, the mountains covered in snow and glowing pink as the sun started rising.

We found the humpbacks quite fast and spent some time enjoying them tail diving quite close to us. They turned and swam slightly towards Lundey then both dived together, for a second we didn´t know where they were then one shot up out of the water in a full breach!!! Then the other!! They jumped again and again together, really high before spending some time floating on their sides doing pectoral fin slaps.

The moved around gradually until we were near Videy then again the started jumping again, until the absolute masterpiece that was one of them jumping at the front of the boat out of no where. They had been about 150m away when it dived but when it breach it was less than 10m away. We were all stunned! Then both whales swam along side us really close and together, giving pectoral fin slaps as they went.

It was the closest a breach has been to us in many many years and was a truly magical day for everyone on board. Crew included!
