Whale Watching Daily Diary – December 17th 2025

It was a windy morning here in Reykjavik before we set out for whale watching but the forecast was for the weather to drop by the time we departed and thankfully it did.

It was still a bit blowy with some waves, but the Amelia Rose cut through the ocean effortlessly, and it held off raining too which was a blessing.

We searched and searched and it took us a little while but then we saw those great big blows that we always look for. The signs of not just one, but two humpback whales!

Approaching slowly – so as not to disturb them we saw their beautiful tails come high up out of the water multiple times, and they came close enough to us to get a really good look at them.

The wind earlier had meant it was 50/50 whether we would go or not – we are so glad the wind died down enough so we could!
