Whale Watching Daily Diary – December 1st 2025

From the 1st of December, due to the late sunrise, we set sail in search of whales only once a day at 1:15 p.m.

Today’s tour began in truly challenging conditions, as a strong north-easterly wind had already stirred up the waters inside the harbour. We did not give up and set sail – and, as usual, our efforts paid off. Less than 20 minutes after setting off, a pod of harbour porpoises appeared as out of nowhere near the harbour. We spent some time with them, but due to the large waves, it was difficult to navigate, so we moved on in search of something bigger.

Very close to Viðey, we saw what we wanted to see – two beautiful female humpbacks surfaced a few metres away from our ship! This time, they found us, not the other way around. They swam around us, very close, for some time. Today they were quite active, surfacing and diving, showing us their beautiful white tails.

In the meantime, we managed to see a charming harbour seal, again not far from our boat.

It was a beautiful day, even with a fairly strong wind blowing straight in our faces, we managed to track down as many as three species of marine mammals. May the rest of December be just as good!
