Whale Watching Daily Diary – December 20th 2025

It was a grey and overcast day here in Reykjavik and a bit windy when we set out from the old harbour to go whale watching. Recently it has been amazing and we hoped to continue that streak today!

First we set off towards the open water, keeping sharp eyes all around us. It started pouring down with rain but we persevered.

Then we saw something in the water…. seals! A couple of grey seals playing together and then stopping and just watching us. We carried on searching by Viðey and saw harbour seals. It was a seal sort of day.

We had almost given up hope when we got a call that another boat had seen a blow right where we had been 1hr before!!

Heading back there sharpish we finally found our 2 humpback whale friends ans watched them dive all around the boat. The most amazing sight was them doing a perfectly synchronised tail dive at the bow with Esjan as the backdrop!

A wet day but a wonderful one!
