Whale Watching Daily Diary – February 15th 2026

Humpback whale flukes showing their unique black and white pattern. Whale watching Reykjavik.

We left the harbour this morning at dawn, which is now around nine o’clock in mid-February. We began the tour with a short exploratory trip around the bay, not too far offshore, until we encountered two humpback whales that entertained us with their acrobatics for quite some time. They were particularly active today. Perhaps they too decided to enjoy the bright sunshine this morning, along with the seals perched on the rocks near Videy Island.

Afternoon tour: The afternoon was equally sunny, and the sea remained calm. We encountered two humpbacks again, which initially surfaced peacefully here and there, only to swim into an area full of birds and, as it turned out, fish after about half an hour! The whales became much more active, surfacing really close to our boat and showing off their beautiful tails.
