Whale Watching Daily Diary – February 20th 2026
Morning Whale Watching Tour
We left the old port in Reykjavik in the morning, with strong winds from the east and slightly rough seas. We decided to explore the area where we had spotted humpbacks the previous day, between Viðey and Lundey, but we didn’t see a single blow. We set course westward, and after about half an hour we saw what we were looking for: two huge blows in the distance. It was Banana and Apple! They kept us company and delighted us with their show for most of the time. The synchronization of their tails when they raised them to dive was so perfect.
On the way back, we also stopped to watch the seals. We managed to count at least 12 of them, surrounding our ship on all sides!
Afternoon Whale Watching Tour
In the afternoon, the weather remained similar, so we set our course northward – that’s where we left our humpbacks… but they were no longer there. Instead, harbor porpoises surfaced, clearly in a hurry. We stopped for a moment, but these elusive creatures disappeared in the blink of an eye. After about 20 minutes, we saw a beautiful blow in the distance, and when we were already close, Apple treated us to a few tail slaps, then breached out of the water! Banana was in the distance too, so the whales were still together in the area. Despite the wind, we saw them surfacing very close to us, and their beautiful tails were just the icing on the cake.
