Whale Watching Daily Diary – February 8th 2026

Morning tour

Fantastic weather conditions on Faxaflói today! The water was calm, smooth as glass. In addition, it was an almost windless morning with excellent visibility. Perfect conditions for spending time with whales.
As soon as we left the harbour, we spotted two large blows near Viðey – our regular visitors, two humpback whales. They were swimming together, very relaxed, but they showed us their beautiful tails quite close to our ship! The whales were surrounded by at least eight seals, which here and there emerged with their heads shining in the morning sun.

Afternoon Tour

With the afternoon tour, the wind picked up, but conditions remained ideal. We managed to find our humpbacks again. This time, they were separated and actively feeding, coming up and down in search of fish. But it was quite a spectacle – the animals changed positions so quickly that it was sometimes difficult to keep up with them, and at one point we were even treated to a beautiful tail spin! Between the hunting whales and many active birds, we spotted our unexpected guest for a split second – a lone common dolphin! There were also harbour seals this time.

Two tours so different, but equally full of excitement.
