Whale Watching Daily Diary – January 14th 2026
Today was cold but not as windy as it had been in recent days. The days are starting to get longer and the light in the skies above Reykjavik was beautiful when we left the harbour.
We initially explored the area near Videy Island and then headed further out to sea. We spotted our first humpback whale after about forty minutes of sailing, which was particularly exciting because after diving a few times, the whale jumped out of the water and was only a few metres from the boat.
It was so close that many people were able to see it, even though it only jumped once. Those were seconds of real excitement, and that’s when you realise how big these animals are compared to us!
