Whale Watching Daily Diary – January 20th 2026
Finally, we went back to the sea with calm weather and a very bright sun.
The conditions at the surface were perfect for spotting any animal. We started with a shy seal spying us from the surface. Sailing a little bit more, our captain spotted a blow, but it wasn’t just one, but two blows. Two humpback whales together were very quiet and calm with our presence. Always appearing together, we could see them very closely and in detail.
Later, we sailed a little bit further into the bay, and unexpectedly, we saw a common dolphin. Only one! In nature is very rare to spot only one toothed cetacean because they used to live in pods, in families. But surprisingly, this little fella was all by itself. Probably exploring a little bit.
Common dolphins are an unusual species in Iceland, as this country is not part of their range, but we all know that water temperatures are changing globally, so some species are appearing in unusual areas.
Two incredible moments at the sea that our passengers will remember forever.
