Whale Watching Daily Diary – January 22nd 2026
It was warmer than it has been recently but the wind has remained and started whipping up the sea as we headed out from Reykjavik old harbour to search for whales. Nothing Amelia Rose couldnt handle though and she cut through the ocean easily.
At first we headed out into the deep water around Engey then back in between the islands where we found two beautiful humpback whales.
They were extremely relaxed and sat next to us for ages, totally unfussed by our presence which is what we like!
After they treated us to some tail dives we left them in peace and headed off to scout the rest of the bay. We didn’t find any other marine mammals but luckily on the way back in we found the same humpbacks again!
A real joy to see these majestic animals even if it was very icelandic weather today!
