Whale Watching Daily Diary – March 14th 2026
Morning Whale Watching Tour
The sea conditions were good today and it felt like a typical summer whale-watching day: plenty of sunshine for most of the day. The favourable weather conditions allowed us to explore the bay far and wide in search of whales. We didn’t spot any humpbacks this time, but we were greeted by an unexpected treat: a rather friendly minke whale, which approached the front of the boat several times. It had been quite a while since we’d last seen minkies. Minke whales are known to be more shy than humpback whales and considerably faster. But this one decided to stay with us a bit longer!
Afternoon Whale Watching Tour
In the afternoon, we were lucky enough to spot the same minke whale hunting for capelins. This time, however, it decided to head even further out to sea, so it took us a while both to find it and then to make our way back to port. However, on the way we encountered another species I hadn’t seen for a while: harbour porpoises, which were jumping alongside our boat. It’s lovely to see different species of whales so it was so worth it to sail so far out
