Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; Male orca swimming near Reykjavik

Today’s weather is a welcome change after the recent storms! The sea is calm and there’s a light, chilly breeze.

We set course for the open bay, but our plans were thwarted by orcas waiting for us near the harbour entrance! Three adult females – a wonderful encounter that doesn’t happen often in Faxafloi Bay! Due to the herring migration from northern Norway to the south, the orca season in Iceland has begun!

A little further from the shore, we saw a beautiful, large blow from a humpback whale – this individual is a new whale in the bay, and it showed us its beautiful dark tail. Could this already be a sign of a major migration of humpback whales from warmer regions to Iceland? We hope so!
