Whale Watching Daily Diary – March 28th 2026

We set off on this morning’s whale-watching tour with slightly choppy seas and a fairly strong wind, but conditions were generally fine for spotting marine wildlife.

We set course westwards, towards the deeper parts of Faxafloi Bay, and after about 40 minutes we spotted the first sign that delighted us – the blow of a humpback whale! A large, adult individual was swimming alone; first, it treated us to a few deep dives, showing off its tail.

And then… a breach! Unexpected and beautiful, followed by a few backflips. What a spectacle! As if that weren’t enough, a minke whale swam into the area. We spotted its long, dark silhouette several times, only for it to vanish quickly over the horizon – it’s incredible how fast these creatures are!

On the way back to port, the weather conditions got worse significantly, so we decided to cancel the afternoon whale-watching tour
