Whale Watching Daily Diary – March 6th 2026
Morning Whale Watching Tour
The morning started with snowy skies over Reykjavík Harbour as we prepared to head out into Faxaflói Bay. The sea had some movement, but conditions were still good for searching. We headed out with high hopes and began scanning the wide bay. The day before, a humpback whale was spotted near the islands, so we tried to check every corner of the area, but unfortunately we found nothing and offered our passengers a complimentary ticket.
Afternoon Whale Watching Tour
In the afternoon, coastal conditions improved slightly, but we decided to head towards the open bay, where we had found a large cluster of marine animals the previous day.
On the way to the spot, harbour porpoises appeared out of nowhere. We gave them a short chance to show themselves, but unfortunately they disappeared in the blink of an eye.
As time passed, the sea became increasingly rough, but we didn’t give up because there were really a lot of northern fulmars around! That’s always a good sign, and it paid off! In the waves, we saw the blow of a humpback whale. It must be said that our passengers are extremely determined, because the North Atlantic showed its power. Nevertheless, we got a chance to see the whale close to our boat, and we saw its beautiful tail several times. This whale was active, changing its position drastically, which is why after this tour, our passengers were officially named professional whale spotters. The conditions were truly Icelandic, so we will remember this tour for a long time, but what a thrill it was to see a humpback among the high waves!
