Whale Watching Daily Diary – May 8th 2026

Double humpback whale flukes showing their unique black and white patterns

Today we got really lucky with the sightings! Three humpback whales were observed swimming together in the calm waters of Faxaflói Bay today.
The trio travelled peacefully side by side, surfacing regularly and showing beautiful synchronized movements.
Their tall blows were clearly visible in the sunshine and could be spotted from a great distance.
At times the humpbacks rolled gently at the surface before making slow, graceful dives below the water.
Later in the tour, a large pod of around twenty white-beaked dolphins appeared nearby.
The dolphins were very active and playful, swimming quickly around the area and leaping through the calm sea.
Several individuals came close to the boat, riding the waves and giving everyone fantastic viewing opportunities.
In addition to the humpbacks and dolphins, several minke whales were sighted throughout the bay .
Some minkes surfaced quietly close to the boat while others could be seen travelling steadily in the distance!
The calm ocean conditions made it easy to spot wildlife across a wide area of Faxaflói.
The combination of calm seas, clear weather, and abundant marine life made for truly memorable conditions at sea.
Overall, it was an outstanding day for whale watching in Faxaflói Bay with excellent sightings from start to finish.
