Whale Watching Daily Diary – November 12th 2025

One of many beautiful and peaceful days in Faxafloi Bay. We set sail at dawn, thinking that the sun had forgotten about us. We set the rudder to the north-east, and after a few minutes between the islands, we saw a huge blow in the distance. An adult female humpback was drifting lazily near the surface, barely moving. She was alone. She dived deeper a few times, showing us her beautiful, almost completely white tail. However, she spent most of her time near the surface, staying there for over 15 minutes at a time! How often do you see a humpback sleeping?

A little further away, between Lundey and Viðey, we spotted a minke whale. The complete opposite of the sleeping humpback, it was quite difficult for us to keep it in sight, so we decided to spend more time with the female humpback. On the way to her, we saw an adorable harbour seal, which timidly emerged about 20 metres from our boat!

The afternoon tour went smoothly in the presence of the same female humpback. It is amazing to see how comfortable she feels among us, taking naps in her natural environment.

A great day!
