Whale Watching Daily Diary – November 27th 2025
We had overcast skies this morning but calm seas despite the weather warning and we were happy to go out.
We sailed for a while, looking for whales but didnt see anything. Then things got really interesting. Instead of us tracking them down, they came to us! Without any warning, one of them exploded out of the water in a full breach right beside Engey island. Absolutely massive. Then it flopped onto its side and started whacking the surface with its long pectoral fin over and over. After all that excitement they settled down and just cruised around peacefully. We got some gorgeous views of them diving, with those classic arched backs and tail flukes lifting up. The passengers were over the moon.
Our afternoon departure was hoping for a repeat performance. We searched the same general area and eventually tracked them down not too far from where we’d left them earlier. They were in a mellow mood by then, mostly just floating and resting, though they did give us some stunning deep dives with their tails going straight up. It’s always thrilling when they breach or get active, but honestly it’s also wonderful to just watch them being so calm and unbothered by our boat nearby.
On our afternoon trip we also saw some harbour porpoises and seals. Two of the cutest species in the ocean for sure!
