Whale Watching Daily Diary – November 3 2025
What a beautiful, sunny and surprisingly warm day it was, considering it was early November in Iceland.
The water was incredibly calm, so we immediately set sail towards Hvalfjörður. The day began with a show from long-unseen guests – the smallest whales, harbour porpoises, appeared here and there, popping their little bodies up every now and then. As befits porpoises, they kept their distance, but appeared routinely for about 10-15 minutes at various points. Then we managed to find something much bigger, as a beautiful adult humpback whale appeared right in front of us.
We started the afternoon tour in the blink of an eye – a fairly large minke whale was waiting for us right by the harbour wall. After a few moments, a little further from the harbour, we found a female humpback whale, which had been swimming between the islands with her friend for several weeks. At first, we thought she was alone… but after a few minutes, we saw not one but two huge blows. This only confirmed our belief that these were the same whales we had been seeing for a long time.
A very successful day!
