Whale Watching Daily Diary – November 4th 2025
A fresh cold bright day, with calm seas today. We headed out into faxafloi from Reykjavik to look for whales.
Shortly after setting sail, between Engey and Viðey, we spotted harbour porpoises splashing around. We counted about five individuals, spent some time with them, and then headed north in search of larger whales.
Not far from each other, between Lundey and Viðdey, three adult humpbacks were waiting for us. Two of them had been together for weeks. These incredibly calm and slow giants surfaced every now and then, and with the water being as smooth as glass today, everything looked truly magical.
In the meantime, a shy, small, light-coloured harbour seal appeared before our eyes. However, as quickly as it appeared, it disappeared under the water.
We spent the afternoon in the glow of surprisingly warm sunshine, two humpbacks and one much more active minke whale!
A very successful day!
