Whale Watching Daily Diary – October 20th 2025

It was raining all day which limited visibility but didn´t stop us! The sea was nice and calm and there was almost no wind which was great.

We headed out and saw two huge blows balloon into the air about half a kilometre away to the south and so we headed over to find the two humpback whales we were confident there were. The humpbacks were wonderful giving abnormally high tail dives, then suddenly a pod of white beaked dolphins joined them! They played with the dolphins for the best part of an hour, and just before we left the humpbacks were so close to the side of Amelia Rose – and one rolled onto its back and just lay there for a while showing off its white underside. Absolutely wonderful to see.

In the afternoon, we sailed straight to the spot where we had encountered whales in the morning. We were not disappointed – we saw a large pod of white-beaked dolphins and two humpbacks. One of them was rolling from side to side – we saw its beautiful fluke, splashes of white pecs and belly! Thanks to this, we were able to identify that it was an adult female… her age did not prevent her from playing, and we left the spot with big smiles on our faces.
To our surprise, right by the harbour, a minke whale was waiting for us. We spent a few minutes with it, ending the day with three species on our list!
