Whale Watching Daily Diary – October 21th 2025

Today’s weather conditions were a truly Icelandic experience – a strong, piercing wind from the north created quite large waves. Fortunately, the sun was shining and visibility was really good!

We set sail in the morning, only to be greeted by two adult minke whales right by the harbour. They were very active – their splashes and lunge feeding delighted the passengers.

After a few moments, we decided to sail further into the bay, and not long after, we saw a small blow in the distance, a few hundred metres away. It turned out to be not one but two humpback whales, which treated us to some really beautiful tail slaps.

In the afternoon, the wind picked up. We were a little afraid to go out into the open sea. Fortunately, this time the whales found us! Just before Grotta Lighthouse, we saw a breaching humpback whale. It turned out to be the same two individuals we had seen in the morning. In addition to some really great jumps, we saw pectoral fins and the whales themselves a few dozen metres from our boat.
Finally, we decided to find the minke whale again – luckily, it was still near the harbour gate.

A great day!
