Whale Watching Daily Diary – October 24th 2025
Beautiful and sunny day in Reykjavik today! Snow has already settled on the mountains near the bay, and you can definitely feel winter approaching in the air.
During colder months, it´s not unusual to spot humpbacks and minkes surprisingly close to Icelandic shores – sometimes even inside harbours and fjords. They do it to feed on abundant coastal fish and krill, save energy, and take advantage of calm, food-rich waters. Shallow and relatively calm waters simply make hunting more efficient! And today was no exception – right between the islands, we spotted two grown-up humpback whales. These two were very, very relaxed… but we could take a really close look at them, as they were absolutely fine having us around. There was also one, quite big minke whale in the area!
