Whale Watching Daily Diary – October 4 2025

We were the only boat out today as there was a bit of swell and only Amelia can take it, this makes it harder for us as guides because normally the companies work together to search the huge area of Faxafloi to find whales. But we were successful! We left Reykjavik in bright sunshine and a brisk wind. We found our first whale after about 30min of looking. It was a large minke whale, and whilst they are normally shy this one stayed with the yacht for ages even coming up directly at the bow. It was obviously very curious about the boat. When it started leaving us we left it to feed and carried on our tour. We end up seeing 3 more minke whales! They kept circling the boat and were very bold. We also saw lots of gulls, northern gannets, and shags.
The ocean ended up being pretty good despite the forecast and the wind dropped so we could enjoy the sunshine on the way home.
