Whale Watching Daily Diary – October 6 2025

Oh my gosh what a day! A minke whale just seconds from the harbour on our first tour to start it off then we saw a blow…no the blows of 2 whales…no the blows of THREE humpback whales! All together! We headed over and the three of them were resting, logging at the surface but when they dived they showed their tails and the really investigated the ship, coming up either side of it and even right at the bow. Then we saw another blow ahead so we carried on over to see that whale too and it treated us to a huge tail dive right next to the front of the boat.

We didn´t think the day could be better on the second tour. The seas had pretty large waves but they were long so we just went up and then down slowly, and it felt pretty adventurous. Then we saw a humpback that surfaced to the right of the boat a few times, before we saw a breach – about 800 metres away so we headed to see it and on the way met another humpback whale…and then another! They were all pretty chill but we got to see their tails and we were super happy with the tour so we turned the boat home and had started back when we looked out to the right and there was another whale breaching, and instead of just one jump it did it again and again….then it took a break and lay on its back slapping its pectoral fins, doing barrel rolls, and then doing huge tail dives only to breach again! The jumps were so high and with full spins in them and only a few metres from the boat! It was so loud when they landed! It then swam under the boat a few times popping up on either side of us and repeating this behaviour. It was such a joy to see. We lost count of the number of breaches but it had to be about 20 times. Incredible.
