Daily Diary – June 17th 2023
Daily diary of whale watching from Reykjavik Old Harbour, on the yacht Amelia Rose, on June 17th 2023.
Although the sky was grey it was another beautiful day on the water with calm seas and almost no wind – that is unusual for such a windy country!
The first animal we spotted out to our side was a minke whale, it wasn´t super close but easily identifiable. We carried on past it because we had heard there were humpback whales a couple of miles out. Not long after that we saw the blows of multiple humpback whales! At least three!
With everyone on deck we approached and then spent a long time with them around us feeding, and evidently very relaxed with the presence of the ship.
We saw some gorgeous tails and everyone got wonderful tail photos!
On our way home we found a small pod of white-beaked dolphins who put on a lovely show for us.
Here are some of the animals we saw today.
Minke whales
White beaked dolphins
Puffins
Fulmars
Arctic terns
Kittiwakes
