Whale Watching Daily Diary – February 17th 2026
Morning Whale Watching Tour
The morning trip started with the sunrise, and it was freezing. The kind of cold that makes you question your life choices for a minute. But then two calm humpback whales appeared just a short distance from the boat, and suddenly no one cared about the temperature. They moved slowly through the glassy water, their blows visible in the golden light of the sunrise. It felt quiet and peaceful, almost unreal.
All around us, there were seals popping up and disappearing again, as curious about us as we were about them. The sea was calm, the sky was clear, and despite the cold, it was one of those perfect mornings on the water where everything just feels right.
Afternoon Whale Watching Tour
In the afternoon, the weather shifted. The wind picked up, and it got even colder, with small waves starting to build. But the two humpbacks were still in the area. This time, they were much more active: stronger dives, faster movements, more energy overall. You could really feel the change in the atmosphere.
At one point, one of them breached completely out of the water, a powerful jump that left everyone on board cheering. Above us, Northern gannets and many other seabirds were diving nonstop, clearly feeding on something big below the surface. There was a lot of food in the area, and you could see it in the behavior of every animal around us. As we head into the Chinese New Year, we couldn’t have asked for a more symbolic celebration at sea, surrounded by life, energy, and a little bit of wild magic.
