Whale Watching Daily Diary – February 23rd 2026
Morning Whale Watching Tour
We headed out this morning in proper Icelandic weather: windy and rainy, with a swell on the bay. Not long after leaving the harbour, a beautiful rainbow appeared over the horizon, which felt like a good sign for the tour.
It didn’t take long before we found two humpback whales, now closer to Lundey islet. They were travelling together and surfacing regularly, giving us some really nice views despite the weather. We saw several good tail flukes as they went for deeper dives.
Afternoon Whale Watching Tour
In the afternoon still windy and wet, but the sea conditions were a little more comfortable than in the morning. We headed back to the same area, hoping the humpbacks were still around ….and they were! Again, the two humpbacks were swimming together and feeding calmly. They surfaced close to the boat a few times and showed us their beautiful tails before diving.
Even with the rain, everyone left the tour happy after another good encounter with our two regular humpback whales. Thank you, whales!
