Whale Watching Daily Diary – February 26th 2026
Morning Whale Watching Tour
After the rough seas recently having cancelled some of our tours we were keen to get back out on the water whale watching. The sea was forecasted to be a little bumpy today – but everything looked so pretty because of the heavy snow yesterday – finally mount Esjan was white again! It´s been a weirdly warm winter.
We headed through the islands keeping a sharp eye out until we say a blow way over underneath that snowy mountain. A humpback whale! hurrah! We got closer and found it was our lovely whale Banana. He hadn´t left us after all.
After having him swim around the boat for a while, we carried on our adventure and found seals bobbing around – both common seals and grey seals. They are always a joy to see.
A complete success we were all very happy with that tour.
Afternoon Whale Watching Tour
The ocean calmed down even further in the afternoon, and the snow held off right until the end too. We went straight to see Banana and he oblidged us by coming quite close and showing his tail. Some harbour porpoises turned up too which was just delightful. After we left him we started looking for his friend that has been with him all winter. Not long after we saw the distance blow – there she was – Apple! And she was surrounded by seals. So all in all a wonderful wintery whale watching day here in Reykjavik.
