Whale Watching Daily Diary – February 3rd 2026
Morning tour
It was a little bit blowy as we set off whale watching, with a couple of little drops of rain this morning but the sea was calm none-the-less and we set off in the dawn light to look for whales.
First we saw some common seals which is always a joy as they are so cute and look back at us. But then we saw two humpback whales in between the islands of Engey and Viðey. They swam around us, and everyone got a very good view of them, and they were even kind enough to show us their beautiful tails!
Like yesterday we also saw a couple of Northern Gannets diving for their dinner which is very early in the season. Normally we see them throughout the summer up here. Their colony is on Eldey, an island off the Reykjanes penisular.
Afternoon Tour
The rain that was threatening this morning stayed away which we were very happy about!
So with the sun shining we headed out and quickly came across the two humpback whales again, again surrounded by seals and with a lot of sea birds too. Fulmars, gannets, and guillemots especially.
The whales did some really big tail dives right at the front of the ship which was just incredible to see!
Such a great day on the water.
