Whale Watching Diary

Daily diary – March 21 2025

The weather today was very unpredictable. We had lots of snow, hail and sunshine! The morning tour we were searching everywhere in the bay but unfortunately we didn´t come across any marine mammals. We were still able to enjoy the beautiful mountains around us. One of our boats had a glimpse of a minke whale but we didn´t think it was enough for our passengers, so all of our boats received complimentary tickets to come again.

The afternoon the weather continued on the same, but we had a lot more sunshine! After an hour of sailing we finally found the minke whale again and we got a much better look than this morning! It surfaced really close to the boat so that we could see its snout breaking the water. We enjoyed watching it for a while longer before heading back to harbour.

We headed out towards the whale feeding ground, hanging in close to Whale-fjord because we saw so many birds feeding in that area. After waiting and searching we couldn’t find anything, then a huge minke zoomed out of the water straight in front of us, evidently mid-hunt. Whilst we were busy gazing at wonder in it another whale watching boat called us on the radio – “Look behind us!” and a humpback had surfaced out of nowhere very close to us.
